I shared about how much we enjoyed our staycations with Let’s Go Geography back in February.

All the sudden there might be lots more people interested in the concept of an international staycation.

In case you need a summary, Let’s Go Geography is a digital geography and culture curriculum. Each year covers 20+ countries with links to videos, printable maps, crafts, and coloring pages. Intended for grades K-5, our preschooler and 6th grader also enjoy using the program.

Let’s Go Geography offers lots of printable pages for families looking to make this academic– maps, questions, flag coloring pages.

We chose to just watch the videos and do the crafts as a family. No grades. No tests. Just experiencing different countries right from our couch. (Also, I feel it’s important to point out that it involved no planning or real teaching from me. I just clicked on the videos and printed out the pages.)

So far we’ve learned about France, Germany, and Russia. Elle is modeling the Matryoshka dolls she made after we “visited” Russia.

The crafts are printable. All we had to do was print out the templates, and voila! Eiffel towers for everyone!

Sure, reading books set in the countries would be a great supplement, but no additional books are necessary to use the program, which is important to note during this time of library closures.

Here’s a graphic that lists the countries covered in Year 2.

If you’re sheltering in place or social distancing or quarantining or isolating or whatever you want to call it like we are, traveling somewhere else is looking pretty great about now.

So is finding ways to break up the monotony of days. Am I right?

Let’s Go Geography was gracious enough to gift a Free Lifetime Membership to Year 2 to one of my readers. That’s a $34.99 value!

Whoop whoop! To enter just leave a comment with what country you’re most excited to visit virtually. I’ll random number pick a winner on April 1st. (Be sure to use a real email address with your comment, or it will be hard for me to contact you.)

For an extra entry, subscribe to Sweeping Up Joy email updates or subscribe via bloglovin. Then leave another comment with how you follow.

I’m so glad to be able to share this with a reader!

If you don’t want to wait, you can buy access to Year 1 or Year 2.

It’s interesting how they do a little bit of each continent every year… I like that! Though I was secretly hoping it would match the curriculum “spine” we’re using, which does 1 or 2 continents a year (in a 3 year cycle). That said, next year we will be doing North America, so having a few more resources for that wouldn’t be bad! That and I personally would be interested in learning more about Kyrgyzstan (including how to spell it! :D)

This looks great! While we would be most interested in visiting Bulgaria πŸ˜‰ but since it is not on the list, I would love to visit Japan, my kids were interested in Russia.

We have done a few country studies, but not many. I think they’d be interested in any place in Africa, India or SE Asia that we haven’t explored much.

This looks awesome! I think my kiddos would love to know more about China with everything going on right now with Covid-19. I’d also love them to explore Alaska as there’s so much to see!

No one could come up with a consensus on just one country, so maybe I shouldn’t have asked my kids! So the top winners are Canada, Greece, Ireland, New Zealand, and Japan.

Hope everyone is doing okay! One of my kids was complaining today about being stuck at home, so I asked her ti name five blessings that she has right now today. She only came up with three, so I finished it out with “No one in my family has coronavirus right now” and “Nobody that I know personally has coronavirus right now”.

Big attitude shift, as I imagine being at home with coronavirus would be much, much harder than just being stuck at home.

Sorry for the little rant. Maybe I need to go call someone and talk to them on the phone. πŸ™‚

Every summer we take a pretend trip around the world, I stole the idea from Jenny at Unremarkable Files. We choose one country from each continent. My kids come up with some humdingers like Uzbekistan and Sudan. One time I chose Sweden so we could eat at IKEA and I wouldn’t have to come up with an authentic meal. This year I think we will do Kenya, Uruguay, Austria, and I’m not sure yet about Asia.
This would be an awesome addition to our summer “travels”

It is hard to pick a single country, but one favourite country for most of us is Australia, because it has a pretty unique geography and a complex culture based on the mix of indigenous people and the colonisation by the English.

It’s hard to pick, maybe Australia?

Would love something to break up the days of new baby + prepping to move + quarantine!
