MSB {26}: Pizza Edition!

We are in Cincinnati.  Well.  A suburb of Cincinnati.  Same difference.  David and Cee are down at the pool, and I have some quiet time to write and be a part of My Sunday Best.  It’s been so long since I’ve had the time to participate.  I miss blogging about books and Sunday antics and funny kids stuff.

As we were getting ready to board our first flight today, an airport employee started making small talk with Cee.

Employee:  Are you going to visit someone special?
Cee:  (hesitantly) Yeah…
Employee:  Oh?  Who’s that?
Cee:  (even more hesitantly)  A doctor.
Employee: (looking confused) A doctor?
Me:  (chipper-er than I felt)  Yep!  A doctor.
Employee:  (awkwardly turns to leave)  Oh.

Even though Cee knows the purpose of the trip, that’s not stopping her from having a good time.  We are livin’ it up.

Exhibit A:

Cee was given no direction in posing for this picture.  Just look at her looking.

Man, that kid ate a lot of pizza tonight.

We went to Mass last night (aaaaand, Bea and Moe were all business about making us ready to leave them for a couple days), but today we wanted to scope out cool churches in the area.  It’s a thing.  Even if there’s not Mass, we like to visit churches when we’re on vacation.  So we went here after pizza:

But it was locked.  Definitely disappointing, since it looked like it was gonna be beautiful inside.  (Side note:  We are the best at selfies.  Just look at those shapely nostrils and all the chins.  Nailed it! 🙂 )

We took a few pictures outside the church in a lovely little garden area before returning to the hotel.

Leading up to our trip, Cee was looking forward to having us all to herself.  Well– that got old pretty fast.  She already misses both the companionship of her siblings as well as the decreased parental attention.  Yes.  She misses the decreased parental attention.  (When you have three siblings, some of whom are Intense, you get off the hook a lot.  First of all, the Intense Kids make you look like a rock star. Secondly, your parents only catch you picking your nose in public about 25% of the time.  The other 75% of the time, they’re catching one of the other kids.  This applies to eye rolling, sass, and general crabbiness as well.)

So, my Sunday was spent languishing in airports (and the sky) and wandering around.  It felt good to be taking pictures of happy moments.  There aren’t any pictures of me sobbing in the airport bathroom stall, or Cee getting antsy about a two hour flight delay in Chicago.  Hopefully those memories will fade, and from this trip we’ll remember the pizza the size of our table (!) and the fun game of hangman on the plane.

Tomorrow we hope to hitch a ride (if we can figure out how to Uber) to the zoo.  So more fun!  The big appointment is Tuesday.  We’ll see how much pizza is consumed between now and then.

Thanks for all the prayers!!!

What a sweet big sister! Saint Peter in Chains is a terrific cathedral. Do visit it, if you have the chance.

I would love to visit churches as a family hobby! Too bad the one was locked up – like you surmise, it was probably stunning inside. I hope that you guys get to the zoo tomorrow! And, will definitely keep you all in prayers on Tuesday!

Holy pizza! Can I call it that because it’s Sunday? Doesn’t matter. Thattza pizza to remember! Frustrating the church was locked. Unfortunately you’d find that at our parish too, shortly after the Sunday mass. I once went to a church of a different denomination to just sit somewhere quiet after a tough weekday with the kids. I ended up there because, even though I really mostly wanted to sit in front of the Blessed Sacrament and open my heart, the doors to my church were locked!!! But the other Christian church was open, more than welcoming and told me to stay as long as I liked. I was sad about that, because I wanted to be able to do that in my own church. I dunno- it’s weird, the churches were almost always open at least until 9 or 10 pm when I was growing up. Ah well. Hope you find an Uber and have an uber fun time at an uber old zoo. ?

AJ, I know, it is sad, isn’t it, to find church doors locked. But when I asked about it at one church in my old diocese, they sad they had had problems with theft of the Blessed Sacrament, presumably for use in a “black mass,” and desecration. A Protestant church might have to worry about vandalism but not about protecting the Host. I don’t know what the solution is, but it sure is a shame that our churches have to be locked when no clergy/parish administrators are inside to keep an eye on things.

        Right. It’s sad, but understandable.

Yes! We might go back to the church during business hours, too.

I am new to your blog but just realized you are right in my neighborhood! (I recognize the restaurant where you got the delicious pizza – it’s one of our favorites!) I’ve also run into the problem of Mother of God church being locked when friends are in town. It is very beautiful inside! Another one you might want to check out that’s just down the street is the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption. There’s also the Immaculata Church at the top of Mt. Adams in Cincinnati. There are beautiful views from up there!

I hope this trip brings you and your family peace. You will be in my prayers.

Sweet! The houses are adorable in this area. The detail in the trim and the non-neutral paint colors are fun to look at. Plus, Cee had been pushing for a covered porch so she “can read outside in the rain,” and many houses have covet-able porches. The pizza was delish! Cee was gracious enough to share with David and me. 🙂 Thanks for the church recommendations. We’ll see what we have time for. And maybe we’ll see you around! 🙂

Well, that pizza looks like the kind that could help soothe my emotions, and I’d probably eat the whole thing by myself!

I hope the zoo has been fantastic today, and I’m glad you’re adding in some fun to this trip.
