SQT {1}: Seven Quick Takes Kick-Off

My first quick takes!  Woo hoo!

  1. Why yes, that is a withdrawn library book.
    Get it?  Wooo, hoooo!

We just finished reading Poppy by Avi aloud.  It’s our first try of an action/adventure book, and the kids enjoyed the suspense and danger.  Owl pellets!  Porcupines!  I have selfishly edited out a lot of “dude”s in my reading.  My kids incorporate bits of the books we read into our daily life (Moe runs away from diaper changes shouting, “Run, run, as fast as you can.  You can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man.”)  I don’t know if I could handle any “Dude, is it lunch time yet?”s or “Dude, the toilet is doing that weird thing again.”  Let’s just let sleeping dudes lie.

  2. The front of our  house is super blah.  We’ve lived here for almost 7 years and haven’t done anything to give it curb appeal.  We are on a budget and lazy have many other things to do, so that doesn’t help.  Take a look at this professional artist rendering of our home.

Our HouseIt’s actually pretty accurate except for the floating in air and pink triangles part.  (Maybe we should go for some pink triangles?!?!)  I like the idea of adding some shutters, but not functional ones.  Just decorative ones.  Where is a good place to go for curb appeal ideas?  I don’t have the patience sift through a bunch of fancy house ideas, I just need little tweaks for a simple ranch house.

3.  Blessed is She is offering 2 free tickets to the upcoming conference Finding Your Fiat.  Hurray for a conference like this in the Midwest!   Even if the speakers weren’t lovely celebrity bloggers, it would totally be worth going just to ask Marie Miller to sing this song or this song.  Our June is already jam-packed, so I can’t enter the giveaway.  You’re welcome for improving your odds of winning.

4.  I stumbled across a new-to-me blog.  Besides the fact that MaryBigHair has the hair I always wanted, she is hiiiilarious.  I consider her most recent post about kid-appropriate swearing an interesting companion piece to Catholic All Year’s commentary on the topic.  Her idea about a butter pot-pie might just be the next big thing.  And guys–we both like vests.  At least the 5th grade us-es rocked vests.

5.  David’s dad had an accident this week that left his leg shattered.  He fell from a few feet up, so it could have been much worse.  He’s had surgery, and it’s looking like a long road to recovery.  If you could say a prayer for him, it would be much appreciated.

Little House on the Prairie

6.  Did you see the adorable Little House on the Prairie party put together by  Shower of Roses?  We talk about going to the pageant in DeSmet, SD every year, but we haven’t gotten to it.  I’m inspired to do a whole week of intense Little House on the Prairie fun this July and then finish it off with a road trip to the pageant.  Time to start pinteresting!

7.  We’re in that awkward time of year where my kids are always mis-dressed.  They wear pants and long sleeves–and start leaving clothes all over the yard because it’s too hot.  They wear shorts and a tee, and they need to add layers in order to leave the house.  Mostly that means me and the washing machine lose, because everyone wears multiple tops and bottoms in a day.  Solidarity, Mr. Whirpool, solidarity.

Art T-shirt:
That also means it’s time for me to assess what I actually have to wear for the summer.  Last year I was pregnant through the spring/summer, and I’m not even sure I have any clothes left that fit from before that.  I found an adorable tee from Land’s End that I’m thinking of ordering.  I am a fan of some of their “art tees.”  Some seem cool, others seem a little grandma-y.  (If they are all grandma-y, and I just don’t know it, please do not burst my bubble by telling me so.)   Where are there more shirts like this?  They have to wash up well and come in plus size.

Hahaha! We both like vests! The vest in your blog picture is perfect. I had a fur vest in college that I wore on a daily basis. It was a great conversation starter, but oddly enough no one ever asked me for fashion advice…hmm, weird.

Thanks for the shout out in your seven quick takes! That was an exciting way to start my morning!

Thanks for stopping by my brand new place on the internets! Now you know where to find me if you decide to pursue that whole butter pie thing. I’ve seen less developed ideas get on Shark Tank before. We. Could. Get. Matching. Vests. Just saying. 🙂

Thanks for linking up! In our house we’ve reached the time of year where I’ve mistakenly packed up all our winter clothes only to have unseasonably cold weather return with a vengeance. Yay for storage bins everywhere!
