Final Book Count

Hey, remember that time I set a goal of getting 2,000 books to the children’s hospital?

Welp.

I feel a little silly. Because we missed that target by a smidge.

On the other hand, we zoomed right past my “safe” goal of 20.

Lost of people bought some books. After the participation deadline, I figured out the amount of free and half-priced books earned by the party. Then I went shopping with the credit.

It was so much fun to select enough books to use up our credit!

The hardest part was tallying up the book total. I counted and re-counted. And since it was late at night, I figured I better wait until the next day and re-count again. Numbers is hard, people. Numbers is hard.

After several re-counts, I can confidently announce the results.

The final book total is 346.

Hooray! Isn’t that an impressive number?!?!

Posing with some of the books that have already arrived at Child Life!

Cee had her most recent infusion at the hospital on December 26th and stopped to take a picture with some of the books that have already arrived. And they will be getting many, many more over then next week. Hope they have a closet that will hold 346 books!

To everyone who participated in our book drive:

Think about the little boy who will get this book.

Picture of Build Your Own Superheroes Sticker Book

We’re not sure why that little boy will be in the hospital. We don’t know how serious his illness will be or how long he’ll have to stay. But when he picks this superhero book, we can be sure that his face will light up. Because that book is sweet. And it’s allllll his.

He’s 4–maybe 5, and he’ll want to start on it right away. His mom will try to help steady his hand so he can match the superhero mask sticker on the coordinating head. But he will swat her away. Because he can do it himself. It will end up slightly tilted and a little bumpy. But he will be so proud. And he will smile.

His mom will sit back in the rocking chair next to the bed, glad to have a few minutes where she doesn’t have to worry about him ripping out his IV, or keep him from jumping around when he’s supposed to rest, or feel guilty about the 73 straight hours of Paw Patrol he’s watched.

Doesn’t that make your heart happy? There are hundreds (hundreds!) of kids who are going to feel that glee for a moment, a few minutes, or a few hours because of the books you chose.

Thank you. <3

What a wonderful way to start of 2019. It’s going to be a good year.
