This is me. In my Sunday best. The shirt is from Lands’ End. The pants are from a magical Dia Box.
Now that that’s out of the way, we can get on to the real stuffs.
We got a new hand-me-down couch that didn’t really flow with our current gallery wall, and I want to switch it up. I’d like to be able to thrift, craft, or upcycle something new, but that’s not high on my to-do list yet.
After a round with a stomach bug, we’re just trying to catch up on laundry. I can’t get away with saying, “Sorry, kids. Just go commando. I’ll get back to doing laundry after I finish hot gluing these shells to this mirror.”
So while I wait for inspiration and time, I just stuck random things in the nail holes that were already there. It’s…transition-y. Here’s an old My Sunday Best picture so you can see the before. (Ignore me awkwardly pretending I know how to pose. )
Pretty much everything but my dove is switched up. I need some good DIY tips and ideas. I think that gold goes better than the black with the new couch. But I know about as much about decorating as I do posing. So. There’s that.
It’s a tall order. I like to mix crafty pieces with religious artwork and kid photographs. What I really need is a good focal point. Then I can arrange some of our favorites based on that.
What books/blogs/articles will help me figure out how to refurbish the stuff I have into something cheerful and meaningful?
Any tips are much appreciated. 🙂

I have no decorating tips/tricks/etc. except watch a lot of HGTV.
But, I wanted to say I snorted about the laundry and “Sorry kids, go commando” thought – because my children are sans pants (but wearing underwear or diapers) more often than not, and I can only imagine saying “Go commando” because I abhor laundry, and it becomes the last thing I do weekly. ?
I look forward to seeing more about your decor changes. And, I hope the stomach bug has finally left your home!

Oh man I’m the worst at any sort of decorating… But I totally feel the face in that first picture!!! John Paul likes to take like, a trillion pictures and by the end I’m like, “Really? You done yet??” And then STILL none of them are in focus!

Guys, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve told my kids “go commando!” It CAN be done in the most dire of emergencies haha.
p.s. I’m a big fan of big art. like a huuuuge painting or something on the wall. Sorry, I know nothing about doing a collage piece with frames! I’m interested to see what you come up with, though.

Stomach bugs are the worst! The laundry often feels like the worst part of it, you know?

I get totally sucked into Apartment Therapy (http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/) and IKEA hackers (http://www.ikeahackers.net/). They have tons of great DIY ideas that can be done on the cheap.

I love the shirt! As for your wall, I wish I had a clue but I don’t. We’ve lived here five years and have barely hung a picture, although I have several. I have a phobia about decorating that only gets worse the more time I spend online.

Check out “The Nesting Place” book at your local library. It was a game changer in helping me overcome my fear of putting nail holes in the wall and failing at decorating.

My husband is very handy and uses Pinterest a lot. I asked him about any refurbishing things he has found on Pinterest – he’s going to get back to me. However, maybe follow his boards – he’s Techguy217 on Pinterest . .. following him may lead to some boards you love!

Haha! I’ll start following your husband on pinterest. 🙂

I also recommend just searching around on Pinterest for decorating ideas. I like the Rhiannon’s Interiors blog. She tackles small topics in each post and gives specific styling tips. I also recommend stopping into an Anthropologie. The stores are decorated beautifully themselves, but they also have the best selection of curated decorating and design books I’ve seen anywhere. You can flip through the different books to find one that best aligns with your style.
