Library Love {2}

Linking up with a gentle mother to share the best of our library pile this week.

Treasures from our Checkout Pile!

Buffalo Storm
has just the sort of strong female character that I want my girls to see.  Hallie’s relationship with her left-behind grandmother is sweet, and the words of the book are delicious.

“like a bread loaf ready for the oven”
“fires spat and crackled”
“huge and surly and crazed with life”

The illustrations by Jan Ormerod and word pictures created by Katheine Applegate do a wonderful job conveying emotion.

Are we the last ones to get on the Little Blue Truck wagon?  Yes?  Okay.

I’m a sucker for rhymes.  And animal noises.  And books that go by quickly.  Because Moe likes to re-read books several times in a row, the rhymes, animal noises and pacing are essential to my sanity and ability to stay awake.  This book is perfect for re-re-reading.

I got this off of Fishbowl Fortune’s library haul list from last week.  Since picking it up on Friday from the library, our family has giggled and squealed through it multiple times.  Mr. Peanuts the squirrel is grilling hotdogs!  Mr. Peanuts has a vacuum!  Isn’t he cute?!?!

I’m trying to find a good squirrel art project so I can read this at co-op for my elementary art class…

This winner came off of a gentle mother’s list last week.

I appreciate books that make abstract scientific concepts accessible.  Microbiology for littles?  That’s just what this is.

Some books that discuss germs are terrifying to kids. Tiny Creatures handles the topic well– truthfully but without scare tactics.

We love books.  Abraham Lincoln loved books.  Guess Mr. Peanuts has competition to be our family’s new BFF (and not just because they love sucking Mr. Lincoln’s face).

From his hard work to his honesty to his first brush with slavery, we follow Lincoln from his birth to his presidency.  No trace of a dry history book here, Kay Winters tells Lincoln’s story realistically and simply.

Do you have any library treasures to share?  I’m always working on putting a batch on hold for next week! ?

We’re going to need to recruit more participants for the library link up, because otherwise we’re just going to cycle through each other’s lists. 🙂

Ha! Be prepared to re-read Little Blue Truck over and over… and over… and over. It’s one of those that is now emblazoned on my brain forever. For when you really think you’re about to lose your mind with it, I’ll spill the beans… there is a Little Blue Truck in the City and a Halloween one, as well, both lovely. 😉 Thanks for linking up!

I’m glad you like Mr. Squirrel. Little Blue Truck reminds me of Sheep in a Jeep. I think I can still recite that one.

Little Blue Truck is a favorite here! We have Little Blue Truck’s Christmas too and it’s a cute book. We’re in line for Little Blue Truck’s Halloween at the library. 🙂
