Library Love {1}

I’m linking up with a gentle mother to share the best of our library pile this week.

I don’t think there are any rules, other than 1. Library books and 2.  Awesomeness.

I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to develop a graphic for this linkup.  I kept asking myself, “Does this adequately illustrate my love for the library and her books?”  The answer was always no.

But I settled on this since I’ve got kids to feed.

library-love.

On to the books!

1.  My kids are crazy about Piggie and Gerald books.  We own one, and we cycle through all the books that the library has to offer a couple at a time.

Cee has fallen in love with comics.  She can’t get enough of David’s Garfield books from 1994, which is hilarious because of all the references that are obsolete today.  Anyway, these books by Mo Willems are sort of an intro to comics.

I read the books so that Gerald is my regular voice and Piggie is sort of a squished, higher voice.  That way the kids know who is talking.

This particular book is sweet because it’s all about thanking different people.  Next time we read it, I’m going to suggest a person and brainstorm with the kids why we might be thankful for that particular person.

2.  How can a book staring mice and voles speak such truth?

New mom Poppy is overwhelmed with housekeeping and caring for her three wee mousekins.  Her sympathetic husband and others in the community team up to make things easier for her.

The book ends with the line, “Bless their little whiskers,” because it can’t get any more adorable.

Why doesn’t our library carry more gems like this from the Brambly Hedge series by Jill Barklem?!?!

I’m going to write a letter.

3.  Real photos of chameleons + a handful of words on a page = a favorite for everyone.

The highlight of the book is the action shot of the chameleon’s tongue out and attached to a caterpillar and the subsequent pictures of it chewing said caterpillar.

Do I even need to say that this is Moe’s favorite from our recent library haul?

4.  I’m going to pair this with the above book for an upcoming PK-2 Homeschool Co-op Art class, and then we’ll paint some chameleons.  Actually, I hope to use washable markers and a spray bottle of water to make a giant fun mess.  That’s art, right?

5.  This is one of those annoying duck books. It’s like

,

but with less spanking.

The kids like it.  And since it’s not too long, I’m okay with it too.  Sometimes brevity trumps quality.

And that’s it!  Our five favorites from the library.  I’m using Christina’s words because they were perfect:

*I’ve linked each booked through Amazon Associates, but the whole point is that these are LIBRARY finds, so head to your library and find them there!*

Do you have any library treasures to share?  I’m always working on putting a batch on hold for next week! 🙂

PS– If you happen to order something using these Amazon links, we receive a small commission at no cost to you!  That means we can buy us the Brambly Hedge books that the library is missing.
